What is Dermaplanning?

If you’ve heard of microdermabrasion, dermaplanning is similar, except that is a deeper method of skin resurfacing. It’s become a popular noninvasive cosmetic services treatment to remove facial hair and dead skin cells. It can be performed as a standalone treatment or in combination with other skin care treatments.

The procedure has become quite popular across the country because it is a quick procedure that offers people more radiant, glowing skin without the use of chemicals.

What Benefits Does Dermaplaning Offer?

The procedure is ideal for patients who have peach fuzz, thin vellus hair, fine lines, and uneven skin. It offers these benefits.

  • Remove blemishes.
  • Reduce sun damage.
  • Enable skin care products to better penetrate to the lower skin layers to be more effective.
  • Reduce fine lines.
  • Soften wrinkles.
  • Treat congested pores.
  • Treat milia (small white bumps on the skin).
  • Removes peach fuzz that can make makeup look cakey.

It can also help speed cell turnover.

How Does Dermaplaning Work?

Using gentle, swift and short strokes with a sterile blade, your provider will gently abrade your epidermis (outer layer of your skin.) Because discomfort and pain are typically minimal, no anesthesia is required. There is also no downtime or recovery period. You’ll be able to resume your normal activities following your appointment.

Most treatments typically take about 30 minutes, and you will likely need multiple treatments to reach your desired effects. To maintain or maximize your continued improvement, you may require a maintenance regimen. That said, dermaplaning effectively removes 21 days worth of your dead skin cells. It’s best, therefore, to wait for your next treatment until your skin completes its rejuvenation cycle.

This gentle scraping helps removed the top layer of dull and dead skin cells to reveal fresher, brighter skin without the use of chemicals. Your skin will look much more radiant and even. Your peach fuzz will be eliminated, and your face will feel very soft — almost silky!

After your dermaplanning procedure your skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure, so be sure to wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
