Choosing Cosmetic Services

You might not think of your skin as an organ like the heart and liver, but that’s what it is. While protecting you from infections and performing other important tasks, your skin can take a beating from sun, weather, dry environments and the aging process. As the glow diminishes, you may be considering cosmetic services, such as those offered by Dr. Charles Dietzik at the Vein and Vascular Institute of New Jersey.

What Are Cosmetic Services?

Although some treatments may also have health benefits, the primary purpose of a cosmetic service is to improve your appearance. In the case of the skin, that can include reducing or even eliminating wrinkles and fine lines, treating areas where the skin has become sun-damaged or plumping up the skin to help it look smoother. These treatments include laser procedures, filler and Botox injections, chemical peels, micro-needling and dermaplaning. All of the procedures mentioned are minimally invasive and can be performed in a doctor’s office.

Who Needs Cosmetic Services?

Anyone who is in generally good health is a good candidate for cosmetic services. The less damage at the time of treatment, the better the results, but even badly damaged and wrinkled skin can look better with treatment. If you have sun damage or wrinkles from squinting or frowning (or want to prevent wrinkles), rough skin or acne scars, you may be a good candidate for cosmetic services. The best results are achieved in people who have reasonable skin tone and those who are non-smokers – smoking damages the skin because it affects circulation.

What’s Included?

At the Vein and Vascular Institute of New Jersey, we offer a number of different cosmetic services. Botox injections can help prevent or eliminate wrinkles. Juvederm and similar dermal fillers such as Radiesse and Belotero help plump up the skin and make it look smoother. Micro-needling stimulates the natural healing properties of the skin. Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution – available only with a prescription – stimulates the growth of eyelashes, making them thicker, longer and fuller. Facial peels cause damaged skin to slough off, leaving fresh new skin. With dermaplaning, the doctor uses a very fine blade to literally shave away old skin.

What About Recovery?

Many of the cosmetic procedures we offer are quick – 30 minutes to an hour – and recovery time is short. Some procedures result in minor redness or swelling. In most cases, you’ll have recovered from the procedure within a day or so. Depending on the procedure, you may notice the effects immediately, show some improvement within a few days or experience gradual improvement over several weeks to months. You may need repeated treatments or periodic touch-ups for best effects.

We can help you improve the look and texture of your skin. Please contact us if you have questions, or to schedule your free skin consultation with Dr. Dietzik. While no one can really turn back the hands of time, cosmetic services can help make you look your best no matter what your age.
