What Causes Varicose Veins on Your Face?

While they can appear anywhere on your body, varicose veins are often found on your legs and face. Other than how they look,  varicose veins don’t cause any other symptoms. Facial veins can develop in anyone no matter how old they are, but some individuals might be more likely to develop them than others.

Causes of Veins on the Face

Some causes of varicose veins on the face are:

1. Genes:  Individuals with family members with varicose veins have a higher chance of having them as well.

2. Weather changes: Dramatic weather changes could affect your body’s circulation, causing your facial skin to flush. Your blood vessels might burst, causing varicose veins.

3. Sun exposure: Damage from the sun can enlarge your blood vessels, drawing them closer to your skin.

4. Pregnancy: When pregnant, hormonal changes could also cause your blood vessels to break. Many women find that their pregnancy-related varicose veins typically go away after giving birth.

5. Changes in pressure: Extreme, sudden pressure changes might cause small broken blood vessels to show up. Vomiting or an exceptionally hard sneeze could cause this pressure change.

6. Rosacea: This is a common skin condition that causes flushed or red skin due to enlarged veins. Individuals with rosacea often have varicose veins.

7. Environmental irritants: Environmental pollutants or certain chemicals could cause skin damage and make blood vessels more noticeable.

8. Injuries: Injuries to the head that cause bruising could cause blood vessels to break. Once the bruise heals, usually the blood vessels will too.

9. Alcohol consumption: Alcohol can temporarily dilate blood vessels. Consuming alcohol frequently could lead to redness on the face and longer-lasting broken blood vessels.

10. Your age: One of the primary reasons you could have developed small blue or purple veins on your face is that you’re getting older. Your veins and skin weaken as you grow older, making them more vulnerable to these types of veins.

When you have a change in appearance that you don’t like, it could affect your level of confidence, particularly when the change is to your face. Lowered confidence could change how you interact with others whether during a job interview or simply during social engagements.

You shouldn’t avoid going out in public with varicose veins on your face since cosmetic surgery treatment is an option and can get rid of facial veins.
