According to Hamermesh, the above-average looking employee earns 3 to 4 percent more money than the below-average looking employee will in his/her lifetime. Hamermesh also states that attractive people are hired sooner, are promoted quicker and usually achieve higher ranking within their companies than their less attractive counterparts do. Hamermesh believes that attractive people have a higher self-esteem, which gives them the confidence necessary to succeed.
